Mahjong Logbook

American Mahjong Tournament Tracker

Run your Mahjong tournament without the spreadsheet.

Enter player scores after each game or round. Mahjong Logbook keeps cumulative totals and standings up to date, for a club's tournament day, a multi-table American Mah Jongg event, or a league playing a tournament format.

Start a tournament See tournament tracking

Free, no accounts. One room per tournament, players added once, standings shared by link. Want generated seating (including the American letter rotation) and a projector view? Tournament mode (beta) adds them, in English. For help setting up your event, email lee@inflowdesign.co.

Enter scores after every game or round

When a table finishes a game, or a round, whichever unit your format scores, the organizer enters one line per player at that table:

Round 1, Table 3
PlayerScore
Alice+35
Beth−10
Carol0
Diane0

The numbers do not need to sum to zero. Why Alice earned +35 is the tournament's business, decided by its own rules; the tracker records the score you award. Save, move to the next table. Each entry carries the date, a note such as "Round 1, Table 3", and the players picked from the roster.

Automatic cumulative standings

Every saved entry updates the standings. Each player's running total, current rank, games played, wins and losses, and best and worst result are recalculated on the spot. No formulas to maintain, no re-sorting, no wondering whether Table 7 was added yet: the log lists every entry, so a quick scan shows which tables are still out for the current round.

Standings are cumulative across every round entered so far, which is what a multi-round tournament needs. A wrong number is fixed by opening that entry and correcting it; the standings follow.

Multiple tables and rounds

  1. Create a room for the tournament. It takes one tap and needs no account.
  2. Add the players. Type the names once; they stay on the roster for every round.
  3. Organize the tables the way your format says: by draw, by card, by current standings, and keep the chart on paper or on a screen while the tracker keeps the scores. Or let tournament mode (beta) generate the seating for you, American letter rotation included.
  4. Enter results table by table as the round finishes. Twenty tables means twenty entries, each a few seconds of typing.
  5. Repeat for the next round.
  6. View standings at any point. They are the leaderboard of the room, up to date with the last entry saved.

Flexible American Mah Jongg tournament scoring

Tournaments score differently. One event pays the card value only; another adds a bonus for a self-picked win, a penalty for throwing the winning tile, points for a wall game, or its own house rules on top. Mahjong Logbook does not force one scoring formula, and it does not claim there is one universal American tournament system. It does not validate NMJL hands either. Your rules sheet decides the score; the tracker keeps the totals.

Tournament leaderboard

During the event, the current rankings live at the room link. Leave it open on the organizer's laptop, put it on a screen near the desk, or let players open it on their own phones: everyone sees the same standings the moment an entry is saved. Each player also has a page of their own with every result they posted that day.

After the event, the room stays. A club that runs a tournament every season keeps each one in its own room, or reuses one room and filters by date. For rankings that carry on week after week rather than for one day, see the American Mahjong leaderboard.

FAQ

Does Mahjong Logbook support American Mah Jongg tournaments?

Yes. Create a room for the event, add the players, and enter each table's scores after every game or round in American Mah Jongg mode. The leaderboard is the tournament standings, cumulative across every round entered.

Do tournament scores need to add up to zero?

No. In American mode each player's score is entered independently, positive, negative or zero, and the total of a table does not have to be zero.

Can I use my own tournament scoring rules?

Yes. Hand values, bonuses, penalties, wall-game points and house rules are all decided by the tournament. You enter the score each player earned under those rules; Mahjong Logbook keeps the totals and the ranking.

Can I track multiple tables?

Yes. Each table's result is entered as its own entry with the same date and a note such as the round and table number. A round with twenty tables is twenty entries, and every one of them feeds the same standings.

Can I track multiple rounds?

Yes. Keep entering results round after round; the standings are cumulative. The log shows every entry by date and note, so you can see which tables of the current round are still to come.

Does Mahjong Logbook calculate NMJL hands?

No. It does not read the card, validate hands or work out what a hand pays. The tournament scores the hand under its own rules, and the tracker records the result.

Can players see the standings?

Yes. Anyone with the room link sees the same standings, updated the moment an entry is saved, on their own phone or on a screen at the venue. There are no accounts; the link is the only key, so share it with the people who should see it.
